LiveXS Review

New year, a new start !
This review is from one of the biggest monthly music magazines in the Netherlands, LiveXS, here is what it says (text translated from Dutch);

With this name I expected rather rock band then a nu-jazz group, my surprise is even greater when this disc makes it’s first spin. The combination of different styles like funk, soul and jazz sounds especially in the beginning musicaly good, a bit slick maybe, but especially very laidback. Big minus of the “Coming of the light” is the length, the young band is simply missing the quality to be able to captivate for 55 minutes. Should the record been shorter, then the impact of it would have been undoubtedly greater, now after a passing of time it becomes quite boring and dies out as a candle. Next to that the Dutch accent of the singer/rapper Daddo is sometimes on the edge of annoying.

– Lasts too long
+ Sound Laidback

Nederlandse Versie

+ Laidback geluid

NTB (Nederlandse Toonkunstenaars Bond) is a Dutch Music Union, focused on supporting many different aspects of the music trade. This is being renowned as one of the most objective Institutions in the country, and many different publications of theirs are used by the musicians every day.
Here is what a reviewer of the quarterly magazine had to say about the Driftkikker’s Debut CD “Coming of the Light”
Translated from Dutch

Driftkikker is vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, composer Daddo who is joined by bass player Ned and drummer John Kakiay. They use Urban-mix of ambient, trip-hop, latin, funk, jazz and rock music based on tasteful grooves and programmed samples. Daddo is a good performer that half raps, half sings and engages rhythmically. We hear transverse motifs that clash against each other, but are tastefully kept at each other with always-steady beat. The album captivates from beginning to end, production sounds nicely fat with many trip elements so that this music will probably also hit it off on other planets as well. Driftkikker sounds, in contrast to what the name suggests, relaxing and will easily fit on all kinds of compilation-CD’s.
